The Haryana government has allowed retailers to keep their outlets open round the clock on all seven days a week. It has also withdrawn its two-year old directive to shut shops once a week. Till now, all outlets, except those selling essential commodities, chemists, health care clinics, restaurants and cineplexes and those who had sought special permission, had to remain close on Tuesdays in malls and market complexes across Gurgaon. Traders have welcomed the decision to allow malls to remain open round the clock but are wary of the law and order situation which is not considered conducive for late night shopping. As of now, some retail chains such as Big Bazaar, Pantaloon, Lifestyle, Shopper's Stop, Vishal Mega Mart, Reliance Fresh, Gurgaon Central Mall and few others have special exemption under section 9 (24 hours-a-day) and 10 (7days-a-week) of the Act to operate round the clock and all seven days of the week but generally do not open beyond 10.00 p.m.
